Five Steps to Creating an Eclectic Global Style at Home

Five Steps to Creating an Eclectic Global Style at Home

Global eclectic style is the ultimate in cool, collected decor. It's a way to show your unique personality and style by mixing and matching pieces from all over the world.

Global style, boho, or global eclectic is a style of decorating that features a natural, earthy, and often vintage aesthetic. This style is perfect for creating a relaxed atmosphere at home-something we all want. You'll often see it used in the main living rooms through a mix of artwork, furniture, and decorating elements, but that doesn't mean you have to stop there. You can incorporate the look throughout the house by using decorative elements such as baskets and ceramics in the kitchen, throws in the bedroom, and artwork in bathrooms.

Here are a few tips on how to get started.

1.  Jot down some ideas about things you've seen and liked. Get inspired by magazines and Pinterest, but also favorite places you've been including shops and restaurants.

Develop a color scheme by pulling from your favorite items. You can always mix and match different shades and patterns for an eclectic look. Next, choose your furniture. You can go for a mixture of traditional and modern pieces, or mix in some global accents too. Finally, accessorize with decorative pieces from around the world or gathered from around your home, travels, or local shops.

2. Use what you already have.

Use what you already have available. You don't need to travel the globe to find things to create a unique look at home. Mix up some favorites in a new way. Some examples: flea market finds, postcard or greeting cards displayed in mirror or pinned to a bulletin board. Unique pens or writing instruments can be displayed in a cup, beach bags and hats can be hung from a wall hook.

3. Use a variety of patterns in different styles.

Mixing patterns is a great way to create a cohesive and interesting look in your home. Boho decor often incorporates many different patterns, but you can also use a variety of patterns in different styles. For example, you can use a patterned rug with an abstract painting on the wall to create a cohesive look. You can also mix in a traditional style such as a plaid or floral pattern with a more modern look.

4. Texture

Add shells, seaglass, plants, baskets, and other natural elements for texture, and dimension.

Don't forget about unusual lighting that can transport you to faraway places.
